In an attempt to teach and promote financial education, Utah State University professor, Preston Parker has started the Cache Valley Area Investors Association.

“I am sick and tired of people complaining about not liking their job or not making enough money,” Parker said.

The association, whose target is the middle class American, is centered on giving the members of the association what they want. “We try to be very diverse on what topics people are interested in,” Parker said, “one week may be about money market accounts, the next about what debt is good debt, and we will actually bring in specialists in each of these areas to even better help our members.”

While Parker is not a CPA or a financial planner, he is a professional student who has learned a lot, and his experiences and his mentor’s experiences are what fuel his knowledge of finance.

“Our nation has a consumer mindset,” Parker said, “We need to change this to an investor based mindset.” The rich are rich because they have figured this out and they pass this on to their children.”

An example of this is the governments proposed “economy stimulating plan” where all tax payers will receive a sum of money so they can spend it and boost the economy. If people were smart they would take that money and invest it, Parker said.

Cache Valley Area Investors Association was started in August 2007 in Logan, Utah. The meetings are held every other Thursday at 7 P.M. at the Cache Chamber of Commerce at 160 N. Main St. in Logan. There are currently 40 members of the association, but unfortunately there are currently only seven active members.
